Skoda Yeti Review

skoda_yetiThe new Skoda Yeti has an entirely appropriate name, well away from all styled art words. The car has SUV like stance and it is Skoda’s first foray into the lifestyle segment. “This car is not necessarily focused only on the basic needs of the driver,” said Skoda boss Reinhard Jung. That it is good for more than for urban cruising, is shown by the high ground clearance of 18 centimeters/180 mm.

Interiors:

The new Skoda has held a rather dramatic curves sober, almost box-shaped design that will benefit the passengers. Both the front and on the back seat, the space is abundant. The rear seats can be folded down to move in the transverse direction and adjust on a detent in the track so that you can extend the luggage – though at the cost of knee room in the rear. The load area therefore varies from not very lush 405 liters up to 510 liters. The seats can also extend across, then stand up to the roof making available 1760 liters of luggage space. The trouble is the high sill over which you heave your luggage needs.

Engine:

The engine range of the gas engine from the 1.2-liter TSI (77 kW / 105 hp) to the 1.8 TSI (118 kW / 160 hp). With the diesel, the 2.0 TDI is available in three levels (81 kW / 110 PS, 103 kW / 140 PS and 125 kW / 170 hp).

The diesel is a bit grumpy and annoying with a discordant power development: By 2000 rpm, almost nothing happens, somewhere from 2000 to 2500 rpm in second gear sets of turbo boost then a jerk. Apart from this shortcoming is the Yeti with 140-hp strong diesel motorized and at 6.1 liters per 100 kilometers/ 16.39 Kmpl (factory specification for the four-wheel version) is also relatively economical.

Considerably more fun than the diesel is preparing the 1.8-liter TSI turbo petrol engine with 160 hp. It accelerates the 1.5-ton Yeti in 8.4 seconds from 0 to 100 km / hr, is no turbo lag with continuous power development well on gas and uses an average of eight liters to 100 kilometers (factory claim). The engine is not very loud even under load, its only on the highway that you get a strong wind noise at higher speeds in the range of the A-pillar for an unpleasant background noise.

Features:

The optional all-wheel technology of the Yeti is based on the Skoda Octavia Scout 4×4 with Haldex clutch. Another useful feature is the Hill Descent. The working very convenient – if you put the gear lever into neutral, the car crept down at walking pace, without having to brake. If you want to reduce the crawling speed further or increase, it must be only briefly press brake or accelerator pedal.

Chassis:

The chassis of the Skoda has opted for a relatively rigid interpretation. It’s like driving on asphalt and car-like, very pleasant, the steering is direct. In fast corners you can feel the stabilizing effect of four-wheel drive. In easy terrain, including forest trails and gravel roads, the suspension absorbs most bumps away without complaint.

Pricing:

At the prices Skoda previously moves out only some basic data. The base model with 105 bhp petrol engine and front wheel drive will cost just under 18,000 euros, the cheapest all-wheel-Yeti (110 hp diesel) 22,690 euros.
